"Telephone Number Display" Guidance Conflict

Jun 10, 2009 at 3:49 PM
  • On page 5 of the "Telephone Number Input and Display" guideline we are advised that UK telephone numbers should always be displayed with brackets.
  • On page 5 of the Patient Banner (and elsewhere in the document) all telephone numbers are displayed without brackets.

Is the Patient Banner guideline correct (and if so, why is it different?), or do CUI need to update it to reflect the Telephone Number guidance?

Thanks in advance,

Katy

hi Katy

You are right to spot the apparent inconsistency here. I have had some discussions with the guidance authors who have the following supporting information:

The Telephone Number Input and Display guidance is the only document that provides specific guidance points regarding presentation of a telephone number. The Patient Banner guidance does feature some examples containing telephone numbers, but these are for illustration purposes only and do not supersede the Telephone Number guidance.

I will raise the subject of the apparent inconsistency in the event that we have an opportunity to review the Patient Banner Guidance. In the meantime, please refer to the Telephone Number guidance in this matter.

Thanks very much for your input.
